Reading
In third grade we use both the Wilson Fundations phonics program and McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders. This anthology provides students with exposure to fiction and nonfiction texts while focusing on various reading skills and strategies.
Math
Everyday Mathematics is a program developed by the University of Chicago School of Mathematics Project. This is a program that spirals so students are continually exposed to various concepts throughout the year. For more information, click here.

Unit 2 – Number Stories and Arrays
Unit 3 – Operations
Unit 4 – Measurement and Geometry
Unit 5 – Fractions and Multiplication Strategies
Unit 6 – More Operations
Unit 7 – Fractions
Unit 8 – Multiplication and Division
Unit 9 – Multidigit Operations
It is very important that students continually practice their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division fast facts. Students can log-in to the Everyday Math Website to play a variety of fact games.

Writing
In third grade the students will complete the writing process and publish:
- Personal Narratives
- How-To Essays
- Research Reports
Science
The science curriculum focuses on:
- The life cycle of a plant
- Heredity of both plants and animals
- Animal survival
- Weather and climate
- Forces, motion, and magnets
Social Studies
Throughout the year, students will gain a better understanding of where we live in relation to the world, as well as learn about the various cultures in the United States of America and the process of immigration.
